You can remove the ignition switch, on your 1981, Monte Carlo, by removing the retaining clip. With the retaining clip removed, whole the switch out and remove the wiring.
It is important to gap the spark plugs at the right size. The spark plug gap for a 1981 305 Monte Carlo is .045 inches.
