Could be just about anything. I would check the fuel filter, if it never has been changed it could be dirty, and only allow a little gas to get through enough to run the engine then starve it for fuel. When was the last tome this vehicle was tuned up? it may just need a tune up. Have the plugs ever been changed? But from your description I think it's a fuel problem.
