I would guess that you are wondering about the noise the abs makes when you walk up to parked (engine off) Escape, and you open the door. You are hearing a hydraulic pump run to energize the high pressure accumulator (2200psi) that supplies the pressure to operate the hydraulic brakes. It takes a few seconds to build pressure, so Ford starts the pump when you open the door rather than waiting for the engine to start.
Used in trucks and buses. This type of braking system of pneumatic and hydraulic hybrid vehicles.
Actually, the ford escape has a factory recall on the ABS. (anti lock brake system). Take it to your ford dealer and they will fix it for free. Low brake fluid

To change the brakes on a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid, first, safely lift the vehicle and remove the wheel. Then, remove the caliper bolts and slide off the caliper, taking care not to strain the brake line. Replace the old brake pads with new ones, ensuring they are properly seated, and reattach the caliper. Finally, reassemble the wheel, lower the vehicle, and pump the brake pedal to ensure proper brake function before driving.
If you have not opened the brake system ie. taken off any lines or lost any fluid, you should not have to bleed a brake system. Brake jobs are best done by experienced technicians.
To alert you to take care of the brake system. Fluid may be too low, or there is some other problem.

The brake fluid reservoir
If you're only changing the pads, no. You only need to bleed if the hydraulic system was opened or if you wish to flush/change the brake fluid.
