Premium unleaded is recommended for the Lincoln Mark series. Apparently you can use regular but I've heard/read of reduced performance and mileage.
I've always used premium in my 93 Mark VIII and it runs very smoothly. For me, the 20 cents/gallon price difference isn't worth risking extra wear and tear to the engine.

When you think about the fact that premium unleaded is normally about 20 cents a gallon higher than regular unleaded, you are going to be out less than four more dollars if you fill an empty Mark VIII tank with premium rather than unleaded. The loss in gas mileage using the regular unleaded would cost more than this in the long run.
