4 or V6?
EPA for the V6 as in my '01 is 23/28. I squeeze 30 out of it by driving 55 on the highway and taking off slowly from stops, keeping the revs under 2000. Range is 300 miles with normal driving, 400 with grandma driving.
The 4 cylinder is maybe 1mpg better.

SAE 5W-30 any major brand conventional or synthetic oil. Use High Mileage oil if there is over 100,000 miles on the odometer.

The recommended oil for an Oldsmobile Alero is SAE 5W-30 oil. If you live in a state that does not get freezing temperatures, 10W-30 is acceptable.

I was just told by an auto repair man that my 2002 olds alero's power steering fluid can only be accessed and therefor filled by the dealer because of a special tool needed to open the compartment. Diffrent answer: i just filled my wifes 02 alero with standard steering fluid and it works fine. nothing blew up.
About 14 on the HWY. 8-9-10 around town.
