There are four engines that GM installed in the 3rd generation j-body. The most common was the 2.2l ohc engine. The z24 had the 2.4l ld9 engine. The 1995 model z24 had a 2.3l high output engine. The final engine was the 2.2l l61 ecotec engine. All of these engines can be installed in the 2000 cavalier. This would require swapping the wiring, or fabricating your own. It is a difficult task, but can be done if you want to put in the time.
There have also been several v6 swaps. The engine bay can accommodate most gm v6 engines, but the engine mounts have to be custom fabricated. Or, if you want to create a money pit, you can swap in a Northstar V8.... It all depends on how much money you want to spend.

The Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 compact automobile was produced by General Motors in Detroit Michigan. The car was produced from 1982 until 2005 when it was discontinued.

Yes
yes the 3800 v6 fit fit in a Chevy cavalier 95 and up
It night, I think 95-2000 are all the same basic concept. I'm having a new motor dropped into my 2000 z24 convertible right now. I'm sure as long as it's the 2.4l dohc it should work.
