Pull it out and fit a new one
To re-install a belt tensioner for a 1987 Ford Taurus, tighten the bolt when the tensioner pulley is holding the serpentine belt tight. The belt tensioner sits in a slot and can be adjusted to hold the belt tight.
You have to install a new belt tensioner.
Only the 1999 Ford Taurus SHO has a timing belt. The engine is built by Yamaha and NO it is not an interference engine. Replace the belt at 100,000 miles. All other Ford Taurus's have timing chains.
The 1999 Ford Taurus does not have a timing belt. It has a chain that requires no maintenance.
It uses a spring loaded belt tensioner. The tensioner is autmatically set. IF there is not enough tension, then replace the tensioner. The belt may be stretched and need replacment however.
Something is out of line. Check alternator, a/c pump, idler and tensioner. I've had 3 Taurus and never a single broken belt.
As viewing the motor from the front of the car, the belt tensioner is located on the left side of the engine. On what is essentially the front of the motor, the belt tensioner is located just below the idler pulley.
You do not need to replace the timing chain because there is no timing belt at all on Ford Taurus. It has a timing chain.
The tensioner has a spring in it that provides the correct tension for the belt. If it is too loose, replace the tensioner.
you do not need a tool to tension pully belt if belt is loose, belt needs replacing tensioner works automatically
had a freind his truck did the same thing and come to find out they gave him a wrong part. i cant remember if it was suppose to be a four groove and the gave him a five belt. or it was a tensioner he had to switch the pulley off the old to the new
