Plastic tool that slides down the fuel line and releases the lock ring. I made mine out of that glade oil cap... cut the shaft off and sliced it down the middle so it would fit into the fuel filter and release the lock ring when pushed in. You can measure with you new filter... you should be able to find something around the house that will do the trick or just go pick up the little plastic tool at Autozone. Wes

Actually, the oil filters on the 2006 Malibus are located right underneath the hood in a small canister that twists on and off with a special tool. You just pull the old one out..snap in the new one and make sure it spins freely then twist it back in. =]=] Sorry guys! A girl had to answer that one! That "special tool" is called a wrench. :=) ^====== Actually, it's called an "Oil Filter Wrench", thus making it a "special tool."
The fuel filter is located on the driver's side of the frame and will require a special tool to replace it.
You need to go up to AutoZone and buy a fuel filter line tool. About $10.
You unbolt the pan on the bottom of the trans to access the filter. The problem you will have is that the trans dipstick is a special tool that only the dealer has.

You can change your fuel filter with a 9/16 socket, a flat head screwdriver, and a Phillips head screwdriver. The fuel filter is located inside of the gas tank.
