what year did chevy come out with the vortex v6
"Vortec did not come out until 96, yours was probably built late in the model year when they started changing the production line over. Unless you have fuel injection, the 95 uses a throttle body, similar to a csrb." Not entirely correct. Vortec came out in 1986 not 1996. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Vortec_engine Vortec is a trademarked name for a line of piston engines for General Motors trucks. chevy didn't come ouy with vortec heads until the 90's . I'm thinking about 96, so just because they are centerbolt head doesn't mean they are vortec. sorry pal
No. The 8.1 and the 6.6 are equiped with the allison
I am researching this topic as well and from what I can tell and what others tell me is NO 96-00 5.7 vortec truck engines are roller and TBI 5.7 that were HO like Police packages were roller but as far as the 87- 95 5.7 truck engines NO.
Vortec 4.3 should be 200 hp, however, it didn't come out until '94. Standard 4.3 is 160 hp.
I would not worry to much about this noise when the motor is cold; engines have clearanaces that come together at operating temperature. If this noise happens when the motor is at operating temperature then you might have a problem.
1983-1985
In a 1996 Chevy 1500, 95 and prior were TBI motors till 87 and then the were carburated prior to 87.
