There are only two possible VIN breakdowns for a 1977 Lincoln Continental Mark V...

7Y89S******

7Y89A******

The VIN plate on the dash appears to start and end with a cursive 'F' but that only denotes Ford and is not part of the actual VIN. The '7' indicates the year and the 'S' indicates a 400 2bbl V8 engine and the 'A' indicates a 460 4bbl V8.

The 7 means that it is a 77, the Y is the plant that it was made at, 89 is the body style, (2door, 4door, etc) S is the engine size, the last 5 or 6 numbers is the production number. Example last 5 are 33467 means this is the 33thousand 4hundred 67th car off the line for the production run. Below is a web site that will help you decode some of it. It is for 1965, but some of the info is the same.
