For older engines, the recommended oil weight (or more properly put, viscosity rating) has more to do with climate and driving conditions than it has to do with make and model.
Entire treatises have been written on the subject, but to make it simple, most older engines do just fine on nearly anything including 10w30, straight 30, 10w40, or 15w40. Avoid the "lighter" stuff (such as 5w20 or 5w30) unless you live in the Arctic. Avoid the "heavy" stuff (such as 20w50) unless you regularly work the truck hard under hot conditions.
For a heavy duty motor such as Ford's 300 inline 6, your best bet will be 15w40 for most use, or 10w40 in the wintertime.
The 200 cubic inch straight 6 cylinder in a 1966 Ford Mustang holds ( 4 and 1/2 U.S. quarts with engine oil filter change )
In the 1966 Ford Mustang with the 200 cubic inch straight 6 cylinder engine : ( 6 ) degrees BTDC with manual transmission ( 12 ) degrees BTDC with automatic transmission
389 cubic-inch. 360 horsepower
base model came with a 3.8 OHV V6 (232 cid) engine rated at 145 bhp==========================================================The INLINE ( STRAIGHT ) six cylinder engine used in a ( 1966 ) FordMustang was 200 cubic inches
The 1966 Ford Mustang 200 cubic inch straight six spark plug gap is .032 to .036 inch
I BELIEVE that is 4.5 quarts with engine oil filter change on the 1966 Ford Mustang STRAIGHT 6 cylinder engine
.024 to .026 inch ( for the 200 cubic inch straight six cylinder in a 1966 Ford Mustang )
I believe that is 3.68 inches for the 200 cubic inch straight 6 cylinder
On a 1966 Ford Mustang : 200 cubic inch inline six cylinder engine : The spark plugs are gapped at ( .032 to .036 inch )
The point gap for the 200 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine in a 1966 Ford Mustang is ( .024 to .026 inch )
The 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS did not offer the 283 cubic inch (ci) engine as an option. Instead, the available engine options for the Impala SS that year included the 327 ci V8 and the more powerful 396 ci V8. The 283 ci engine was available in earlier models, but by 1966, it was phased out for the higher displacement engines.
I believe that is ( 6 degrees BTDC for the manual transmission ) and ( 12 degrees BTDC for the automatic transmission ) equipped 1966 Ford Mustang with the 200 cubic inch straight 6 cylinder
