You could probably get away with that once without causing trouble if you were changing oil on a regular schedule. Just don't let it happen again. After the vehicle goes through the original break-in period, there are very few particulates in the oil that can get caught by a filter. The old filter should be ok, but recognize that it holds "old" oil and the newer oil is slightly contaminated with the older oil. It's ok, don't panic, just make sure it's done right next time.
Most Honda's use an internal filter that is non-serviceable and can only be accessed by removing the transmission. Just change the fluid and forget the filter.
Inside the transmission. Most Honda transmission filters are non servicable. The transmission must be removed to change the filter. By the time the filter needs changing, the transmission needs rebuilding. Change the fluid and forget the filter.

Air Filter and Cabin FilterAir filter compartment is the biggest black plastic box under the hood. You have to remove four Philips screws pull the cover off and take out the filter. Don't forget to change your cabin air filter (it is a neat feature) This one is located behind the glove compartment.
Yes. You are removing the bad air from your home rather than relying on a filter that you may forget to change and may not get all the stuff out that you want.
More air flow but less cleaning ability. There is no advantage to using a high flow air filter in a daily driver. These only benefit a racing engine. Use a quality filter and change the Air Filter every 30,000 miles at a minimum and change the Oil filter at each oil change every 5,000 miles. Forget the 3,000 mile oil change as it is a waste of oil and money.
