car is a 2000 Ford Mustang with a 3.8 ltr v-6 with an automatic transmission.......we would like to convert it to a 5.0 ltr with a standard trans....perfect sleeper car....have a donor car.....96 mustang gt....will it work and how much trouble is it going to be...do we have to move motor and tranny mounts or will they line up??? thanks for a quick response
figure between 2 to 3 grand.
Sure. Purchasing a doner truck that is automatic for parts would be the way to go.
Hey Ryan==The prices vary with what part of the country you live in. Call some local garages. GoodluckJoe
hey there! can you remove hte tag on your diff cover oneof two tags tell you the gear ratio and wether its a limited slip or an open carrier usually for a gt mustang would be 3.73 ratio but it changes if automatic or standard trans,....
If you mean a standard (manual) transmission, you have two options. You can get a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. I as myself would take the 6-speed manual because it has better fuel economy and it is faster from 0 to 60 and the quarter mile.

you cant, it has an automatic belt tensioner.. you would have to replace the belt if it has stretched
yes; unless it's an automatic, in which case it would be an automatic. Please do not ever EVER drive!!!
If by standard you mean manual (one you shift yourself), it would be automatic. It is cheper for the car manufacturer to make manual transmission than automatic. However, since automatic cars have become so prominent many manufacturers don't charge extra for an automatic transmission.
Sure! But it would probably be cheaper to buy another car.
Why the hell would you want to?
You can fit a manual transmission into an automatic Ford Mustang as long as you have the same engine but you will have to change a lot of things. Depending on the year, you would have to change things like the computer, wiring , steering column to add the clutch, etc. It would be better to buy one that's a 5 speed already.
