Alternator is not recharging the battery. Have the alternator tested or test it yourself with a volt meter. You should read from 13.5 to 15.5 volts DC at the battery with the engine running. If any lower the alternator needs replacing.
We had already changed the alternator, and bought a new battery. It is still doing the same thing. It will idle ok. When you drive it, you go down the road around a mile or so, and the darn thing shuts down again, and the battery is dead again.
Are you sure the serpentine belt is not slipping? Did you replace the voltage regulator along with the alternator? If you answer yes to both these questions then I suspect you have the alternator wired incorrectly or the battery cables need replacing. The latter is what I suspect is the problem. You may have an internal break in one of the battery cables that just does not show up all the time. Look for a bulge in the cable especially a cable running next the the exhaust.
WHEN PUT IN GEAR KILLS ENGINE IF NO BRAKE APPLIED IT WILL DRIVE BUT IF STOPPED DIES
Kills alternator? don't you mean kills battery? Installing a new alternator without first charging the battery well (2amp for 8hrs) will quite likely burn up a new alternator as well as being hard on the battery.
2001 grand prix wont turn over keep trying and it kills the battery
Out of gas versus dead batteryRunning out of gas in and of itself would have absolutely nothing to do with a dead battery. On the other hand, IF someone, not realizing that the gas tank was empty, were to continuously crank, and crank, and crank the engine erroneously thinking they could get the engine to start, then it is for certain that they will drain the charge from the battery and thus "kill" the battery. It's not the being "out of gas" that kills the battery, but the vehicle operator that kills a battery.
You can disconnect the battery. This kills the codes. However, if there still is a problem, the light will come back after a certain number of driven miles. Besides, if you erase the codes before an inspection the inspector's code reader will see that you have done it and may turn you away for not readiness.
Never disconnect a battery while an engine is running!
Its put in there by a magical leprechaun that kills a unicorn and puts the magic that's in its horn in the battery.
I don't think the computer not getting electricity will hurt it.
Will it even attempt to engage the starter?. If not then the battery or charging system needs to be looked at.
Loose or corroded battery terminals? Timing advanced too far? Weak battery? Excessive starter drag? Bring to an auto parts store and have checked for drag and draw Alternator not charging battery properly?
you have corroded battery cable connector feel for heat when trying to start the bad cable will get hot or smoke
No. Voltage doesn't kill you, amperage does, and the amperage produced by a AA battery is not even enough to cause a tingle. Amperage AND voltage kills. Should also include frequency in that equation. 120 v/ 10 amps of 400 hertz kills faster than 60 hz. Amps with low voltage will do no harm. You need both to kill. One AA battery would not kill you but put together enough of them? Why not?
