Both the front and rear bearings on a 1998 Cavalier are contained in the hub assembly. The rear hub is attached with four bolts, and the front with three.
It's a sealed unit with the hub. You have to replace the whole hub assembly.
Rear you have to change the entire hub assembly Front you have to remove the axle shaft
36mm
part of the hub assembly
If you are referring to the front bearings, you have to buy a complete hub assembly.
To remove the front wheel hub assembly on a 2007 Chevy Cobalt, first, lift the vehicle and remove the wheel. Then, disconnect the brake caliper and rotor to access the hub. Remove the axle nut, and unbolt the hub assembly from the steering knuckle, typically using a socket wrench. Finally, carefully pull the hub assembly out of the knuckle to complete the removal.
I believe it is 34 or 36 mm.
When the wheel bearing or hub assembly goes bad in any car, you will hear a moaning sound from that wheel which will increase/decrease with speed. Also if you jack up the car, you might feel play in that wheel.
