On a V8 there are two sensors, the are located on either side of the neck where the thermostat is located. Standing in front of the vehicle the one on the left is for the temp. guage, the one on the right is for the computer. If it is the six cylinder and you're getting the "COOLANT SENSOR BAD" message on the VIC that refers to the level sensor in the header tank. I have this problem and the sensor is not At Fault. From investigations on the web it seems that the connections on the VIC are the problem, possibly dry solder joint. Difficulty is getting the VIC out!
You will need to fix the sensor or the wiring to it.
The engine coolant temperature sensor is the sensor that is screwed into the thermostat housing on the top front of the engine.
Check your fuse, and your coolant temp sensor. The coolant temp sensor is more than likely the problem
There are two separate sensors that play here. the "coolant temperature sensor" and "coolant LEVEL sensor". I suggest confirming which of these was replaced, as it is very common for them to be confused. likely you will find the coolant sensor that was replaced was the one on the engine (temperature); The LEVEL sensor is mounted either in the coolant resivoir or in the radiator. Probably just need the proper sensor replaced.
where is the coolant temperature sensor locate
Usually a crankshaft sensor is located on the bellhousing of the transmission
It is in the distributor.
in a toilet
how to locate engine coolant temperature sensor on a 1999 Cadillac De Ville Concurs
in the valve body which is inside the transmission.
Low coolant or bad sensor
What type of coolant sensor? The below answer is for the coolant LEVEL sensor. The coolant TEMPERATURE sensor on my vehicle is located just next to the thermostat housing. On the front top center area of the engine just behind the radiator. Follow the coolant hoses if you have trouble. On my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee the sensor is located on the top of the plastic coolant reservoir tank. Look for a small (2-wire?) electrical connector.
