In the 1989 F150 302cid EFI, the coil is on a bracket near the back of the engine on the drivers side. The bracket is mounted so that it sits just above the back of the drivers side valve cover and is parallel with the ground. The bracket also acts as a mount for the the two thermactor air system TAB and TAD control solenoids and the EGR valve control solenoid.
To find the solenoid, simply follow the ignition wire in the center of the distributor cap back to the coil.
