The glow plug relay on a Mercedes-Benz Vito CD111 Long is typically located in the engine compartment, often near the battery or the fuse box. You may need to consult the vehicle's manual for the exact location, as it can vary by model year. It's usually a small, rectangular unit that can be identified by the wiring harness connected to it. Make sure to disconnect the battery before attempting any inspection or replacement.
It might not start at all, and if it does start, it will run rougher.
The hazard relay of a Mercedes Vito is incorporated in the normal front wiper switch. Simply pull back the switch and the hazard relay will be seen.
The glow plug relay is situated on the (uk) passenger or Nearside front of the engine bay to the right of radiator secured by two 10mm nuts. unit is approx 100mm x 40mm not inc the tabs for fixing to engine bay. Also has 2 multiplugs attached to it big one has 4 female spade connectors within numbered for your convenience 1 through 4 looking at engine bay from front of van Left to Right, 1 2 3 4 glow plugs/cylinders. Can test with a multi meter set to ohms value of 200milli (next one up from the continuity beep test notch). Test each plug from spade connector to earth (can use the allu lump to right of engine) should get a reading for good glow plugs of 0.6milliohms anything lower than .3 to 000 and they want replacing (can be one bi*ch of a job). Always check plugs before changing relay as a knackered plug one that shorts to earth will fuuusk your new relay! Good luck!
The reason for this problem is the corrosion between the glow plug threads and the cylinder head. A lot of engines have this problem (in fact a risk at most engines, a lot of problem also with injectors and sprak plugs)) An excessive force with a torque wrench may cause the glow plug to break, or lead to damage to the thread. If this happens, the mechanic does not really have any choice but to remove the cylinder head from the engine to extract the glow plug (and high repair bill sure >1000$). There is are solutions on the market for this. Most of them are very expensive tools to pull out the glow plug. There is one new solution named vibropac, see www.vibropac.ca. This product is just on the market in Nort-America, it was designed in Europe for cars having this problem. This tool vibrates the glow plug, ensures the material forces of corrosion and dirt are breaking and are minimized and at the same time, using force to unscrew the plug. Good luck.
Fitting glow plugs in a Mercedes Vito typically takes about 1 to 2 hours, depending on the engine model and the technician's experience. The process involves removing necessary components for access, replacing the old glow plugs with new ones, and reassembling everything. If any complications arise, such as rusted or broken plugs, it may take longer. Always consult a professional for an accurate estimate based on your specific vehicle.
