It's located towards the back end of the hood, closer to the windshield. Right smack in the middle. Follow the spark plug wires and it should take you there. Very easy to replace.
If you happen to have the 2.2L engine, it doesn't have a distributor cap. It has a DIS (distributorless ignition system).
If you have the 2.2 L engine in that 99 S10, there is no distributor in that vehicle. It has a DIS (Distributorless Ignition System).

If you are looking for the distributor on a 2.2L engine, it doesn't have one.
The ignition module is located in the distributor, under the distributor cap.

There is no dip stick just a plug to be removed about 5 inches up on the right side of the trans. If fluid runs out that opoening, it is full. On my 1999 S10 pickup the trans dipstick is located left and in front of the distributor cap (4.3L).

The camshaft position sensor on a 4.3L engine would be in the distributor.
