The EGR valve is a round "valve" (has one hose coming from top, one from side) that is on top of the throttle body. Actually, it is bolted with two bolts to the rear of the throttle body. If you don't know what a throttle body is, look for the pulley that moves when you press the gas pedal (with engine off). If i remember correctly....there is no egr valve on a 2000 Camry. If there is however it will be where the last guy said. The link below is to a picture of the EGR valve for a 2000 Camry 4-cyl. engine with an automatic transmission. It is bolted to the back side of the intake manifold with two bolts, and to a flange at the top of a steel tube running up from the exhaust system with another two bolts. http://catalog.autohausaz.com/autohausaz/image.jsp?title=EGR%20Valve&url=http%3A//img.eautopartscatalog.com/live/B7010168929OES.JPG
The egr valve is located on the top rear of the engine. It bolts on and is easily removed.
No but if there is still an EGR valve problem then its the EGR Valve switch located at the back of the motor. I replaced my EGR valve 2 times before I figured out it was the electrical switch, which had burnt up, for the egr valve. I havent had a problem with the EGR since then..
4cyl back of intake near throttle body// 6cyl roughly same area
The egr valve is located on top of the engine. It is close to the firewall, mounted close to the center from side to side.
I just replaced the EGR on my 1997 Toyota Camry 4cl and it was about $300, the downside is that I purchased a part with only a 6mo warranty and at 7 mo it went out again...
There are many reasons for that. It's better to start from the spark plugs and spark plug wires. Check the EGR valve, and EGR vacuum switching valve. Make sure that you do not have gas leak.
Remove it, and throttle body carbon cleaner. Make sure that the valve can be moved easily.
I don't have the pictures but found some by googleing Camry egr valve. You can start there and that might be enough to get you going.
EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. The purpose of the EGR system is to lower the amount of oxides of nitrogen the engine produces. The parts of the system are the vacuum actuated EGR control valve, the vacuum switching valve, and the EGR vacuum modulator assembly.
P0401 indicates problems with EGR system... It might a simple one, for instance, you just need to clean EGR pipe and valve. Or it can be more expansive one like faulty EGR valve or EGR sensor. Which one you have impossible to answer without testing the car. And you can use the professional Toyota tool to repair it, I think the Toyota it2 is a good tool for it.
according to the emissions label it does not have an EGR valve.
the vacuum switching valve that run the valve are a common problem they are intermittent stuck closed so do not operate the valve
