There is a panel in the cargo area, on the left if you're looking in from the back. open that up and you'll see the switch.
The on / off switch for the air compressor would be in the cargo area , on the drivers side , near the liftgate , where the vehicle jack is stored behind the removable plastic panel on a 2000 Ford Explorer
On a 1999 Ford Explorer , I know that the " Limited " trim has air suspension The shut off switch is in the cargo area , on the drivers side , near the liftgate , in the storage compartment where the wheel jack is stored
Normally it should be on It is switched off when changing a flat tire etcetera ,or anytime any of the tires will not be touching " ground " to prevent damaging the air suspension
In your tire jack storage area , there is an on/off switch for the air ride system , check to see if the switch has been turned off ( the switch is turned off before jacking any wheels up or an air suspension equipped Explorer is put on a lift where the wheels hang )
open rear hatch and open jack compartment on left side. turn off air ride switch for about 1 hour and take a drive. this should reset the system and you can turn the switch back on. to keep this from happenning, always turn off this switch before jacking the explorer off the ground.
Replace the shocks with standard shocks. just be sure to turn off the air ride switch located behind the rear drivers side wall poanel
The switch is in the cargo compartment , on the drivers side , behind the plastic panel where your tire jack and rear window washer fluid reservoir is ( on a 1995 Ford Explorer Limited )
Open your liftgate and look in your jack storage compartment ( drivers side rear area ) and see if there is an on / off switch for the air compressor
I have a 1995 Explorer Limited with air ride struts. The noise I found was of the drivers side strut. Needed replacement.
Check your gauge lighting dimmer wheel switch , to the right of your headlight switch in your dash , and see if it has been rotated all the way down - that will over ride the dome light according to the owners manual
The on / off switch is located in the drivers rear of the cargo area where the wheel jack and the rear wiper fluid reservoir are behind the access panel near the liftgate
Clutch pedal lever. SWITCH IS AT THE TOP OF CLUTCH PEDDLE BUT THE OVER RIDE FUSE IS # 20 ON FUSE PANEL REPLACING THE FUSE WILL DISCONECT SWITCH.
