On the 2.2 engine, it's on the front of the block behind and just to the right (when looking at engine from the front) of the oil dipstick tube. Look for an orange rubber cap on it, and a 3-wire cord that'll be wrapped up not to far from it.

i bought a 2007 Malibu today they come with no block heater ... Dealer told me chev stopped putting them in unless its an option add on... i hv to get one installed
Disconnect the heater lines going into the fire wall from under the hood. Remove the panels from under the dash. At this point you should be able to remove the heater cover and remove the heater core.

On most cars and on my 1991 Cavalier the fuel filter was located just under the car on the drivers side. It's an aluminum cylinder about 4 inches long.
The block heater is installed under the exaust manifold. It does not go INTO the coolant. It's a "clamp on" style heater. It heats the coolant by heating the block where there is a coolant passage. To install it, you'll need to remove the head shield from the exaust manifold (3 screws). The heater is secured using 1 bolt.
