Start by replacing the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
The sensor is threaded into the coolant passage in the back of the cylinder head.
7 quarts of coolant will fill your sl2

A 1995 Saturn SL2 will hold 7 quarts of coolant. Saturn vehicles are no longer made but can still be serviced by GMC dealerships.
The rear crankshaft sensor is located on the back of the crankshaft. The rear engine cover will need to be removed in order for the sensor to be visible.
The coolant temp sensor is located directly under the EGR valve, just in back of the upper radiator hose connection on the engine. The sensor has 2 wires and uses a 14mm socket to replace
On top of the transaxle. Look just above the woven steel section of the exhaust
Replace the engine coolant temperature sensor. Your car has two, replace the one with the 2 wire connector
