assuming it is a 5.0 L it is located on front side of motor just left of thermostat housing however it can also be found in the back of engine located in the supply line to heater core more than likely beside thermostat
The 1999 F150 4.2 does not have a temperature sensor. It uses a cylinder head temperature sensor instead. It is mounted at the rear of the engine on the head.
