The switches for the dome light on each door of a 2004 Olds Alero are at the front of the door. They are on the door frame where the door meets the frame when it is closed. If the dome light is staying on, try checking the dome light control by the headlight switch, also. It may have gotten bumped when entering the vehicle.
The door ajar switch is part of the latch inside the door.

there should be a 3 position switch on the light itself, ON, OFF and DOOR. Put the switch on DOOR and that should do it. If not, you may have a bad bulb.
The dome light diagram is quite simple. all 4 of your door switches are grounded to the body where they mount. the wire leads run threw the insterment panel junction block, then out to the dome light. the dome light has a 3 contact switch, one contact being "OFF", second contact being "DOOR" and third contact being "ON".
Fuse for the chime module or a bad switch for the door. Does the dome light come on?
