I assume you are talking about the switch that controls the light inside the truck. This switch is located inside the door near the door lock, key area. You have to remove the window crank handle, etc, and then take off the interior trim panel. Once you have access to the inside of the door, you can reach into the area near the door lock. Its a tight fit for most hands.

I went crazy looking for the door jamb switch on my 2001 Denali. It's attached to the locking mechanism inside the door. The latch has a gear which drives a mating gear that activates the switch. When you pull the door handle, the latch opens and the gear moves.
On a 99 ford Ranger it is located right next the radio on the drivers side behind the dash. Remove the radio and you will see in bolted on the left side of the radio hole.
