Bad news! It is a "bummer" to change. I just got done doing it on my 2005 Avalanche. I have done it 3 times previously on 2 of my chev Astrovans and my GMC Safari. It is done the same way on all . First, the pump is in the gas tank. This means that you need to have a minmal amount of gas in the tank. It is virtually impossible to syphon from modern vehicles. prior to putting the vehicle on secure jack stands, you need to remove the negative cable on the battry, remove the fuel pump relay (in fuse/breaker box), and open the gas cap to remove pressure. Disconnect all of the hose connections that you access to. Disconnect fuel filler pipe/tube. Support tank ; and slowly unbolt two straps that hold tank in place. There is a possiblity that there is also a fuel tank guard that may need removed. As you lower the tank with your hydrolic jack, more connections (electrical and fuel) will become available for unfastening. Once tank is on the ground, the large bezel ring is removed with a large pair of channel locks. It may have a "locking" tab whcih will need to be depressed or bent prior to attempting the counter clockwise movement of the ring. Be careful not to damage any parts that will need to be used on the new pump. Disconnect all wiring to the fuel pump and reconnect with new pump. Use new o ring to seal the pump in. In re assembly make sure all connections are frim/don't leak. Also make sure that you do not crimp any tbe or electrical wire when refastening the tank. If this is your first time at this job, and you have all the needed tools, it will take you about 6 hours. This may be one that is better left to the pros.
