On my 64 falcon ute the ground wire goes from the battery straight to a head bolt on the front left of the engine . The head bolt has a secondary bolt threaded into the top of it . The rest of the car gets its ground from another wire that connects to the starter motor mount and goes straight to the fire wall this is only about 200mm long .
Hope that helps
