Remove transmission oil pan
You have to remove the transmission oil pan to access the filter.

The corners have silicone sealer on them. Tap sides of pan with a soft hammer.
metal pan is the oil pan on 2003 Volkswagen Passat.
You just have to unbolt it. However, it may be possible that you'll have to remove the engine from the engine compartment in order to do this.
Behind the oil pan
No, the oil pan has a plug, usually a 9/16" one, that is located on the lowest part of the oil pan. That's where you drain the oil from. There should never be a need to take off your oil pan unless you have much more serious issues than just an oil change.

The cost to replace a jeep oil pan is around $700 including labor. You can choose to do it yourself for about half the cost.
It is in the oil Pan. You will have to drop the oil pan to change it.
Drain the oil from your 2003 Chevy Malibu oil pan. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts. Remove the oil pan gasket. Put a new gasket on the new oil pan and reverse the process.
