On my 1997 Mystique I had same problem. I searched forever and found it finally. It is attached to the turn signal assembly itself. It looks like a black 1 inch cube. You will need to remove the cover that surrounds the steering column. On my 1997, that was just 3 screws. The switch is then easily accessed and pulls right off the backside of the turn signal assembly that is attached to the steering column. I hope this helps ya.
