To change the thermostat on a Mercury Mystique, first ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the coolant and remove the necessary components to access the thermostat housing, typically located near the engine block. Remove the old thermostat and gasket, clean the surfaces, and install the new thermostat along with a new gasket. Finally, reassemble everything, refill the coolant, and reconnect the battery.
