The first practical motorcar in the United States is generally credited to Charles and Frank Duryea, who built their gasoline-powered vehicle in 1893. The Duryea brothers founded the Duryea Motor Wagon Company, which produced the first gasoline-powered automobile in America. Their invention laid the groundwork for the development of the automotive industry in the U.S.
