My question to you is how much does it vary? Does it start to drop when you turn accesories on? Does it fluxs' with the RPM's of the Engine? How old is your truck? As time goes on the Alternator will start to degrade some. Some of the grounding spots for the electrical systems over time will build up corrosion and cause the system to work harder and cause the voltage to flux. You can take your vehicle to most parts stores and they can run a test to see if the alternator is weak or battery. If you have added anything to the electrical side it could be putting a strain on the whole system. Newer vehicles today are becoming more and more dependant on electrical system. There has been talk of upping the voltage to 24 or 32. I would also have to ask has this been all of the sudden or just something that has steadly becoming more noticeable?

98 chevy truck check gauge light comes on?

That light notifies you that one of the gauges is out of its normal parameter. Check the temp (overheating), the voltage (not charging) and the oil pressure gauge (low or no oil pressure).

How do you tell if a voltage regulator is bad on a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500?

The voltage regulator is responsible for regulating alternator output. Look at the volt gauge in the dash. If it is too high generally that means that the regulator is bad. Take the truck to Autozone and have them check it for you. They offer this service free of charge and will do it on the truck.

Why would voltage gauge move when turn signal is on in a 1997 Chevy blazer?

The voltage gauge on the Blazer is not the most accurate (cheap) When using the signals the voltage draw on the system is enough to make the gauge move slightly.

What makes the voltage gauge fluctuate when the turn signal is on?

A short in the turn signal wiring can cause the voltage gauge to fluctuate. A loose ground wire can also cause the gauge to fluctuate.
