My 1996 Grand Am SE was always overheating. I thought it was the thermostat, It was NOT that, it was the heater core. I had the work done, it was approx 6 months ago. It cost me 500.00, and that was someone I knew and trusted.
You need a new thermostat I just had mine done and the cost was $300.00 I think I got hosed I live in Calgary Alberta the part is only $ 12-$20 but it's the labor involved the thermostat is in a hard to reach place I think back of the manifold.
Well, I live in British Columbia and myself and I'm a woman and my guy friend did it. It's not that hard and it only cost me 32.00 for the thermostat.
Bad waterpump, stuck thermostat, bad electric fan, or a plugged radiator.
Make sure water has not entered the oil it will be milky in color.did you bleed the system. I made two little hoes on the side of thermostat to remove air in system
Any coolant in the motor oil (the oil will appear milky on your dipstick when engine is at operating temps). If not, thouroghly inspect hoses and radiator for pinhole leaks. Lack of proper pressure in cooling system may cause over heating. Also makew sure that your fan is operating properly.
The Pontiac Grand Prix door latch has adjustments to move the latch up and down and in and out. Loosen the adjustment screws. Keep moving the latch in one direction or the other, until the door catches the latch.
Helps keep the tires from spinning and losing traction.shut it off for burnouts
Before you go out and buy a thermostat. Try this start the car with the radiatior cap off and let it run for 5 or ten minuets. If this works then it was air locked. Also check to see if the cooling fan(s) operate when the engine is hot. If not it could be a faulty cooling fan motor, cooling fan relay or cooling fan temp sensor.
Your idler should keep the belts tight. I've had to change my tension idler on my 1997 gtp
Gas lines cannot flood they are supposed to be full of gas
door switch is bad or dirty try spraying with wd40 or replaceing.
what could the problem be?
You must keep the pump reservoir full. Otherwise you will burn the pump up.
The fuel filter on a Pontiac 2000 Grand Am is located under, in between the gas tank and under the trunk where the spare tire lies. The fuel filter is there to keep the dirt and rust particles out of the fuel system.
