Do you get a slight smell of electrical on occassion? Might want to take it to a dealer or just replace the message center. We bought a 95' for our daughter & it started doing that. About 3 months later the message center caught fire while she was driving. The local dealership told us it had nothing to do with the recall item, but another one told us it probably was. Needless to say, it cost $568 to pull the torched wiring and rewire so a basic center consol could be used in place of it. (Didn't want to risk replacing it with another used unit & have it occur again. A new unit costs about $700)
If your talking about the 95 Ford Explorer Limited Edition, there is a lamp module for the headlights (used by the computer to monitor status of the headlights) located in a steel box the size of a pack of cigarretes mounted to the lower inside of the center console directly below the computer display. The headlights are individualy powered by separate fuses which provide power throught the module to the headlights. The module directs fused power through a pair of high current resitors out to the headlights. The solder joints of these two resistors to the circuit board are notorious for cold solder joints. The circuit board is made in Amsterdam, and the module can run from $145-$175.Resoldering the two Resistors remedied the problem for me, with no outlay of money.
processor in consoleIf it is the left headlight, I think the problem is in the control unit in the console. More than likely your vehicle on board computer system has an issue. Or one of the sensors that show the door being closed is malfunctioning. If you hook up the car's on board system to the computer from the dealership, it should be able to tell the exact problem. It may just be that the on board computer needs to be reset.
