The oil is cold and does not flow easily so the pump pressure will increase. Once the oil hearts up the pressure should drop to around 40 psi. If it does not you may have a flow problem. First thing to do is change the filter. Use a good filter such as Purolator, Wix, or AC/Delco. Make sure you are using the correct weight oil.
oil pressure stuck at 80 pounds in my 06 Tahoe 5.3L
wrong oil filter or could be a different weight of oil
step one,is your oil pressure at 80 psi ? or is the gauge tellin you it is? step two, diagnose the problem.
80 psi
between 20 and 80 psi between 20 and 80 psi
Gauge Cluster Board Bad
The oil pressure sending unit could be bad. Or the oil pressure gauge could be bad, but normally gauges don't fail............I would have someone check out the oil pressure sending unit.
80 lbs
80
Yes, both are possible, you need to check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. If pressure is over 80 psi then the oil pump is bad.
The oil pressure gauge will fluctuate on a Chevy Tahoe when the vehicle is idling and when the vehicle is driven at highway speed. Idle is usually 30 psi oil pressure or slightly more. At highway speed, the oil pressure should be between 60 psi and 80 psi.
Probably just a bad calibration on the gauge. I've seen it before, and testing it with another oil pressure gauge shows normal pressures. A: when the oil pressure gauge reads 80 psi it means that there is an open sense circuit. it is most likely a defective oil pressure sending unit, but may also be an open sense circuit wire between the pcm and the oil sender. note: most defective oil senders in this condition are also leaking oil. oil may be seen leaking from the connector seal on the sender.
