It's not a light, the odometer is an LCD and the whole unit needs replaced. I have yet to find the parts to do this though.
You do not need to replace the cluster. The problem lies within the circuitboard. I repair these clusters for 97-04 century models. If you replace the cluster, you will lose all of your odometer readings, which is NOT controlled by the computer. Contact me at ANCTechnologies at Hotmail.com

Just because the socket is good doesnt mean it has a good positive or ground. This would be the first place to start with a test light, or a OHM Meter. The socket may have erroded contacts down in the bottom preventing the current from getting thru.
