Just had this problem on 2001 Escape come to find out there is a hose connector behind the plastic cover of the a pillar where the grab handle is located that had come undone and when you use rear washer it squirt water everywhere. If its not that then could possibly be heater core or water coming in through the fresh air vent from below windshield that is filling up when it rains because the drains for cowl area are clogged.
