Check your fuel pressure. You can rent this gauge from Autozone or any autoparts store that rents. If it is hard to start in when its cold test the pressure at this point. If it is the fuel pressure regulator like I think it might be it will be a bit low (around 45 psi) When its running it should be anywhere from 53-59 psi. If it runs fine after it starts then it probably has a good fuel pump. The 98 s10 w/ 4.3 V6 has a "spider" injection system. On the back of this "spider" there is a fuel pressure regulator. If this is bad (the fuel pressure regulator) you will have a hard start 5-10 cranks. Replace that part. Its underneath the upper intake manifold, you have to take off the throttle body and wiring. Takes about 2-4 hours, You need a ratchet, a deep 8 and 10 mm socket and a flat head screwdriver.
