Check your owner's manual, but newer cars can also illuminate the brake light if the fluid in the master brake cylinder is too low.
This may have happened if the brakes were bled but not filled, or if the caliper was pushed back in, but fluid was lost in overflow, etc.
In most new cars the parking brake light is also activated when the linings of your brakes wear out.
The parking light stays on how am I sure the parking brakes are not on
THE CAR NEEDS FRONT BRAKES............................
No. If you put your foot to the brakes, it will come on. -Answed By Brain!! :))
Is it the parking brake light or the ABS light? is it red light or amber?
Check your Brake fluid. If the fluid is low then will make the Brake light go on. anothe thing is you might be needing new brakes soon..
The Parking Brake could be set (even slightly)
If the rear brakes are smoking, the parking brake cables may be frozen. The dash light may indicate that the parking brakes are released but the switch for the light is connected only to the parking brake lever NOT the actual parking brake shoe assembly. Another possible cause for rear brake lock-up is a malfunctioning rear brake proportioning valve. This valve controls hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes. Brake fluid absorbs moisture and should be changed on a regular basis. Vehicle inactivity and moisture in the brake fluid is a recipe for frozen or rusty brake components. Hope this helps you out!
Because the e brake is hooked into your braking system and that system has a problem.
If it comes on when you step on the brake pedal you might need to bleed your brakes. Also check your brake fluid in the master cylinder.
Check the brake fluid...
Check the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. If it is low that will illuminate the brake light also. If it is low on brake fluid it's time to have the brakes serviced.
