: I had this problem. The car worked perfectly without any overheating most of the time. But when I had to climb a steep mountain road or driving in a normal road but uphill during a long time, the temperature began to increase, once getting up to 3/4. The normal is 1/2 of the thermometer. : Cause: Clogged radiator. : Solution: the radiator was removed and send to an specialized shop that tested it and cleaned its inside. The radiator was not as clogged as to cause overheating in normal driving conditions, but enough to cause the increase of temperature under hard driving conditions. : Additionally, the Air conditioning system radiator was externally cleaned with water (hydrojet). This radiator is located in front of the water radiator and was filthy. We suppose the dirt didn`t allow a correct air flow through both radiators. After this work, the Liberty performed as new when I took the same uphill road. Even the Air conditioning system worked better, with colder air. I live in the tropics and you really can feel the difference. : Unless is something obvious, like the electric fan not working, water leaking or dirty coolant, try what I did. ; Other causes Cracked Radiator Tank highly likely. Can be replaced for about 100 bucks. If you are loosing antifreeze this is proabably it. REPLACE THE TANK IMMEDIATELY. The tanks are made of plastic. They can't be repaired with stop leak or another other form of leak fixer. Thermostat installed backwards. The correct way is the spring side facing into the engine. If it is installed backwards, it will show the symptoms of 3/4 hot on the Temp gauge. It comes with it's own rubber seal, so you won't need a gasket. :
