The transmission is going into limp mode because one or both speed sensors are reporting a failure the computer will limp the transmission into one gear only. This is to protect the rest of the clutches and seals to prevent more damage internally. You need to check and replace the input and output speed sensor if necessary.
why is my 1996 Mitsubishi lancer evo stuck in gear
Automatic or manual trans? What am I missing here? Explain! If it is stuck in 3rd gear then it is obvious that it can't go in reverse.
the bracket in the nose cone is broken
Either your clutch is stuck or your synchro mesh and or bushings have gone out. you need to have your tranny serviced
It's possible it's going into limp home mode. The computer detects a bad sensor and doesn't allow the car to shift out of 2nd gear and that's the only gear. No 1st, 3rd, or 4th. If this is the case definitely get it checked out. P0731 is gear ratio error in 1st gear. You need to have it checked by an experienced transmission tech. It could be nothing more than a speed sensor, or the trans could be shot.
the shift fork is either wore out or broke.
faulty speed sensor in the transmission
When it has been pressed and the light is on, the transmission is limited to 3rd gear.
synchronizer for third went out. It's the thing that keeps you from knocking it into another gear except neutral without using a clutch.
that becomes a common problem on Dodge Ram D50 and Mitsubishi Mighty Max. (not sure about a Mazda Mighty Max though) I have an extra trans for that thing possibly
My 1992 Dodge Stealth ES is doing the same thing.. and I had the tranny rebuilt only about a year ago.Turns out, the Transmission ECU was fried... no power to the tranny at all so it defaults in 3rd gear...Do you have a 'PWR' & 'ECO' transmissions mapping switch in your center console? One indicator for me that the ECU was fried is that the light on the dash board did not come on when it was set to Power. (No lights should be on when it is on economy.)Hope this helps.
You need to have it checked. If it is in 3rd gear at stop signs, you are doing damage to the trans, by making it work harder to get moving.
