In 1908 when Ford started selling the Model T automobiles were very expensive and very complicated. Only the rich could afford to buy one and hire someone to keep it running. The Model T on the other hand was cheap at $850 ($20,000 in todays money), simple to operate, easy to repair, and would go anywhere on the horrible roads of the day. By 1924 the price had dropped to $250 ($3,500 in todays money). Ford made the automobile affordable to the average consumer and ended up selling over 15 million by 1927.
