The rpm noise that you hear that comes and goes could be your air conditioning unit turning on and off to circulate the chemical in the unit. This prevents the chemical from going BAD (so to speak), so when you do use your air conditioner it is ready to supply the colder air.
I have a screeching sound in my pick up when it gets up to 2000 rpms. Does not make the noise while idling and starts fine.
