The computer to the car needs to be adjusted, the manufacturer has it set. just like the delay for the gas when steeping on the gas instead of the car moving instantly it slowly takes of, because of the computer adjustment. the car has a temp sensor which balances the cooling. The computer is in conjunction with the sensor.
The 4 cylinder engine does have 2 thermostats.
The water coolant thermostats, on a Caterpillar C-12 diesel engine, are located on the front of the engine. Follow the water supply hose from the radiator to the engine.
Take the engine cowling off the motor. The thermostats are housed right on the top of the engine towards the back. The housing is black and has 3 bolts to romove. There are 2 thermostats, each is a different temperature so be sure to get the correct ones.
Means the same thing, just like saying blower and supercharger.

right front top of engine housing upper hose goes to it
All engines have just one thermostat. It depends on which 2.4l. The PT Cruiser has one. The Sebring has two thermostats.
It is an engine oil cooler. They come stock with a trans cooler.
Cars run better when the engine is warm. Thermostats stays closed to prevent the water from going through the radiator to be cooled until the engine has warmed to the desired temperature. Then, it opens to allow the water to be cooled to prevent the engine from getting too hot.
my car has 2
Nissan have several different models with different engine options. There's no single answer.
