I'm not sure if it is the same as "Check Engine" but.......Check engine light is a warning that something with your emission control system is malfunctioning. To keep driving with the light on could reduce your gas mileage or damage /plug your cat converter. Converters are about $100 not counting the labor. I would suggest getting it checked out. But Chevy also is know to have loose wires in the back of you gauge pod. So if you have gas and know you have gas then you probally have a short in your gauge wire cluster that plugs in the back of your speedo.
The light should go off when the fuel guage reaches 1/4 tank of gas.
