Bad connector or plug
Module in tank defective
Guage defective
Computer issue

The sending unit in the gas tank is bad.
I am willing to bet that you have had someting inside your gas tank or dash worked on recently. The issue is that the plug for your sending unit is on backwards or the wires to your gauge are reversed.

It is inside of the fuel tank.
It could be: Bad sending unit, bad gauge, faulty wiring, corroded connector or a bad ground wire. But that's probably the ONLY things that can cause your particular problem.
The most likely cause is a broken wire or blown fuse.
