I take it you have the carb 4.2? There is an emissions hose coming from the top of the valve cover into the air cleaner assembly. On the valve cover, there is a PCV valve to help keep most of the oil where it belongs (inside the engine. Now alittle will still get through due to the vacuum of the intake, so there is a small 'sponge' filter inside the cleaner housing to get the rest of it. Both of these items should be replaced every 12,000 miles, or every year. Total, the parts will run you 5-6 dollars depending on where you get them. Hope this answers your question. Josh
No.
No.No.
The air filter is in the black box, under the hood, passenger side.
under the hood
It doesn't have one.
The cabin air filter is behind the glove box. You have to remove the glove box to get to it.

Bad air filter? Fuel Leak? Plugged converter? Tune-up?
Nope you do not have to replace the sponge. Air filters differ a lot from different suppliers. The sponge is just added protection that is not required to run your wrangler safely.
Directly in front of the battery. Between the right fender and air intake/filter.
That would be the air filter housing.
I think iat stands for intake air temperature --- if so then there will be a sensor mounted in the ducting between the air filter and the throttle
