no it will not as the brake system components and parking brake cabling are all different as well as the 1988 housing being of 9 inch type as opposed to the 98 being from the 8.8 inch family and the spring perches must be cut and re-welded to match the 9 inch housing to 8.8 spec and getting the housing twisted to the incorrect pinion angle is very easy to do.
