Sounds like a good question. Usually not. The EGR has a pipe coming to it from the exhaust. If the pipe is faulty, you will hear a exhaust leak. There could also be a small tube from that same pipe going to the MAP ( master air pressure ) depends what type of car and engine. (Your question does not specify model, year, engine ). The EGR if faulty or blocked, which does happen will cause your engine to run rough, or possibly stall. Did you check for spark coming from the spark plug wires to the plugs. Take off 1 wire from the spark plug, insert a screw driver in the wire, have someone crank the engine, move the screw drive very close to a metal part of the engine, is there a spark? If no, then check your ignition. I will assume that u r talking about a 2.3L tempo/topaz. If no spark, could be the ignition module, which is screwed onto the distributor, which you have to remove to change. This happened quite often with these models. Check the rotor, and cap also. If u have spark, then check for fuel. When u r in the car, and turn the ign. switch just on, do u hear a hum from the gas tank? You could also have the fuel pressur checked from the injectors, or carb if a latter model. Is the timing set correctly? Did the timing chain break or slip, depends on the mileage and service history. Start with this, and you can always leave me a message on my board. I will check for your response. Once you give me more info, we can find the problem. Good luck Unlikely, Egr causes preburned fuel to be recycled through the intake manifold.A stuck open egr will cause a stalling condition after warm up.
I believe this is what I said in the first part. .........The rest of the information was for the person to locate what the problem is in a manner which they can understand.
A faulty or clogged egr valve can cause an engine to run rough. If stuck or clogged the valve can be cleaned after removal with carburetor cleaner.
Yes
A bad EGR valve should not cause the engine to not start. There is most likely another problem that is causing the engine to not start.
If the engine is TOTALLY dead it is not the IAC valve
No. The purge valve is part of the EVAP system. The EVAP system reclaims and burns the gasoline fumes from the fuel tank and prevents the fumes from escaping into the atmosphere. A faulty purge valve would cause the "check engine" to illuminate but not cause the engine of the vehicle to "die".
A faulty pump, a faulty switch, a faulty release valve on the drain pipe.
A faulty PCV valve can certainly cause idling problems, especially after the engine has warmed.
Worn valve guides? New answer : Worn valve guides WILL cause some what of a rough idle and engine would smoke at all times. If engine smokes at start up only and then quites then your problem would be the VALVE SEALS.
EGR valve is Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve that recirculates exhaust gas through the intake manifold to improve emissions. Typically this valve has a electric connector and harness that is computer controlled. If this valve is faulty, it will cause a check engine light to appear, or a service engine light. In some cases, it will make the vehicle run roughly. Does that help you?
Depending on how it failed, it usually is one of two different symptoms. Both will turn on the check engine light, and store a code. If the valve fails in the stuck open position, the engine will run rough and not idle correctly. If the valve fails in the closed postition, the engine will run normally and cause any driveability related problems.
geo metro had a problem with the egr valve going bad causing the # 3 exhaust valve to burn, which could cause a lack of power in the engine performance. if this exhaust valve was burnt due to a faulty egr valve the new egr valve could have gotten clogged again causing a check engine light to reappear.
If your engine has a faulty intake valve and it drops, shut the engine off as soon as you can. The loose part will eventually destroy the engine, sometimes to the point it cannot even be rebuilt but will need a replacement.
